Letter #99 5-30-2016 Gering Nebraska

Hey Everyone!!
Well transfers are tomorrow and I will be staying here for my last 6 weeks with Elder Navarro. Well yesterday A_ came to church and it was fantastic!!  The Stake President, President Brown came and he was teaching 5th Sunday discussion. He just opened it up and asked what do you all want to learn about? We went over a lot on temple and conversion witch was so great for A_ to hear and learn about.  After the meetings she came up and talked to him for like 30 minutes. He was able to cover a lot of things with her and some of the concerns she had and just talked to her. And at the end President Brown said "when you get baptized this summer will you invite me?" Keep in mind we have not invited her or set her on date yet, and she said I don't know if that will happen, then he said it will just watch.  Then  said "in a year from now when you go to the temple to be married will you invite me?" She thinks that won't happen cause of things from the past, but wow the spirit was so strong there!!!

Well I am looking forward to this transfer there is a lot going on these next 6 weeks and it will go way too fast I know that!!! Just look at my entire mission and how fast that has gone. I definitely don't feel like what I thought I would feel like at this time. And that is a
good thing.

Much love

Letter #98 5-23-2016 Gering, Nebraska

Hey Everyone!!
So this week on Tuesday I was studying the Atonement of Jesus Christ and I found this in the Bible dictionary:

“Jesus Christ, as the Only Begotten Son of God and the only sinless person to live on this earth, was the only one capable of making an atonement for mankind. By His selection and foreordination in the Grand Council before the world was formed, His divine Sonship, His sinless life, the shedding of His blood in the garden of Gethsemane,
His death on the cross and subsequent bodily resurrection from the grave, He made a perfect atonement for all mankind. All are covered unconditionally as pertaining to the Fall of Adam. Hence, all shall rise from the dead with immortal bodies because of Jesus’ Atonement.
“For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive” (1 Cor. 15:22), and all little children are innocent at birth. The Atonement is conditional, however, so far as each person’s individual sins are concerned, and touches every one to the degree that he has faith in Jesus Christ, repents of his sins, and obeys the gospel. The services of the Day of Atonement foreshadowed the atoning work of Christ (Lev. 4; 23:26–32; Heb. 9). The scriptures point out that no law, ordinance, or sacrifice would be satisfactory if it were not for the Atonement of Jesus Christ (Heb. 10:1–9; 2 Ne. 9:5–24; Mosiah
13:27–32).

You know to me it shows how much He loves each and every one of us when He has taken the sins of the world upon Him with the help of our loving Heavenly Father. And it also shows the love of our Father in Heaven to us the He gave His only begotten son as a sacrifice for mankind so that one day we can, and will be able to, live with Him again if we chose to do so, cause it is up to us personally and no one other than ourselves.

Well this week was a good week, we meet with A_ one of our investigators, and talked about Faith and Family's with her and the spirit there was so strong. She will take time but she said she feels her faith is growing and her relationship with Heavenly Father as well and Jesus Christ. And this is a missionary's purpose is to invite other to come closer to Christ.

Well an interesting thing happen this week that just made me think a bit. So we did go to the zoo this past week on Tuesday which we found a potential new investigator. But so we are doing things and getting stuff done to help and the zoo keepers that were there that day looked to me and my comp and B_, the guy that was helping, too and asked us if we could prepare diets for area 3.  Area 3 is where the monkeys, chimp and so on are at.  They looked to me and said "you can show them how to do everything right?" I said I can try I have only helped with area 3 once or twice, and they said “great we will be back and if you have questions you can call on of us.” So all the zoo keepers took off and had other things to do and left us three to take care of area 3. Right as they left my comp and B_ both looked at me and were like, “so what do we do and how do we do all of this”? They were both asking a lot of question and most of them I didn’t have the answer to. I looked around, cause I had and idea of what things had to look like but helping them see that was hard, cause i didn’t know how to explain it to them.  I found the days diets for all the animals, cause the zoo keepers usually prepare them 2-3 days in advance. I just told them to look at these and make your food look like this and we well be good. So they did that but still had some questions.
Well this experience just made me think about things, and particularly in my life and then I thought of all of us... There are times where the Savior will give you little experiences to be a leader when you are not in a leadership position, like a boss or general manger or bishop or whatever. We all can be leaders no matter where we are in life. You never know sometimes who is looking to you and watching what
choices you will make because someone is always watching you or looking up to you. And if we look to our Heavenly Father and be the best follower of Him we can be the best leaders in day to day life through our actions and how we handle things.

Hey Everyone!!
Well this week was an ok week. A lot of our appointments fell through with our investigators. So that was hard. But we did set E_ on a date for July 9th for baptism, which was really weird for me and just realizing how short of time I have left cause that is my last Saturday in the mission. It would be way cool to have a baptism on that day and then confirmed on Sunday and then Monday go into the mission home. But that will only happen if he is ready. When we set someone on a date it is a goal we pray about and feel they could be ready by that time. But if the time comes and they are not ready, we can push it back, it just gives them a marker to reach. It also gives them time to reach the other goals also.

Well this week we also had interviews with President Brown and this is his last time doing interviews for all the missionary's, cause the next time interviews come up will be after July 1st. My interview was just getting a new recommend and that was about it but I did ask him if he was going to be the one giving me my departing interview. On the missionary's last transfer they have a departing interview with the Mission President which is 45 min to 1 hour long. He said he does not know yet but hopes he can. And I hope so too, I know the new mission president would be fine and he will be a great mission president and all, but I have had President Brown these 2 years and have a relationship with him as my mission president and it would just be nice to have him give me my last interview.

Well we also had a good dinner with a family by the name of the R_. Two of their kids had friends over from high school for dinner and we were able to teach them and answer some questions they had. We had a good time just getting to know them, we were also able to give each of them a copy of the Book of Mormon cause that was what they were asking about. But it was a good lesson!!

Letter #96 5-9-2016 Gering, Nebraska

Hey Everyone!!
Well I enjoyed the talk we had on Skype yesterday and it is crazy the next time I talk with you all it will be face to face at the airport when I come home in 2 months. It is a sad but happy feeling to have. There is no greater and harder schooling to have than a mission. Well this week I have been thinking a lot about what I have been asked if I was to give a suggestion to someone who is about to go on a mission, what would that be?

1st.. I would ask why are you going on a mission? And if you want to be the best missionary the Lord knows you can be the only reason you need is because you truly love the Lord not cause you family, friends, bishop or stake president are pushing you to go. If that is the reason I would invite you to grow a strong testimony of the Savior and His work before you send in your papers. Read study and ask the Lord what you should do and act according to what you receive.

Also before you enter the field chose which way do you face, the Lord or man, who is more important to you, the Lord or man. And decided now what kind of missionary you want to be before you even get to the field and what you will and will not do. If you do that you will be so much better off. Don't put it off till the day comes and you get you trainer or companion and he/she says “hey Elder/Sister lets do this or this” (and it goes against mission rules). Cause if you wait till that moment it will be very hard to do what is right. You will have so many things come to your head and you will try to justify it. Like...

He is my trainer if he is saying we can do this it must is ok...
It is only just this once
No one will know
It is not a commandment

These things to come to mind trust me I have seen so much. Decided now who you want to be and it will bless you sooooooo much when you get into the field.

2nd.. be ready to work and sometimes help others work when they don't want too. Also be able to work on days you don't want to work. Just get up and work cause most days in the mission when you feel like that, it’s a day when you find a new person to teach or you bless someone's life that you would have not if you did not work that day.

President Ezra Taft Benson said “I have often said one of the greatest secrets of missionary work is work! If a missionary works, he will get the Spirit; if he gets the Spirit, he will teach by the Spirit; and if he teaches by the Spirit, he will touch the hearts of the people and he will be happy. There will be no homesickness, no worrying about families, for all time and talents and interests are centered on the work of the ministry. Work, work, work--there is no satisfactory substitute, especially in missionary work.”

This is so true you work you will be happy!!!

Letter #95 5-2-2016 Gering Nebraska

Hey Everyone!!

So J_ is based at Fort Sill, it just depends on what pluton A_ will be in. J_ said he will let me know as soon as he knows, so good luck to A_ and hope all goes well with you!!
Well Sunday I am calling around 3 pm that is the best time i could do. I tried 4 but that won't work so hopefully that works for everyone. The family home we are Skyping at is the K_ family.
By the way non of you will believe me but last week I was thinking about John Jones as my guess as the new Bishop, and looks like I was right. But that is way cool for him! Who the Lord calls He will qualify and that goes for both of the these two men with their new callings. So also if BYU goes to plays offs what is the latest game? I am guessing there is no chance of me seeing Eric play?

Well another week has flown by. We had another good lesson with A_ she is doing great we are just working with her on what she is feeling cause she knows she is feeling something but she just thinks it is her being emotional but what she feels on the inside and the way she tells us sounds a lot like the spirit. Also this week we went over to a part member family's home to help them with their yard and we had a great conversation with the husband he is not a member. As we have been able to help him we learned he is a firemen and black hock medic for the Army. I was doing some thinking of a way to bring a conversation on the gospel up with him. During church last Sunday I was just thinking about that a lot and just thought of asking him "I am sure you have seen people pass away or close to death in your job, how do you deal with that I mean what do you think will happen to them when they die?" And that led into a deep conversation of a bunch of things and just what we believe and what he believes in. But it was a great conversation.

Steven thanks for the email I am excited to meet Trisha man congrats.

Time is flying and I love it out here. It's been hard and I don't think I would go back and start over but the things I have learned I would not traded for anything! I feel up to this point I have done what the Lord wants me to but I have some more time left and it will go fast.

Much love

Ps mom Elder Torres my first comp in the mission field emailed me this week and asked when my home coming talk is. He wants to come and if there will be a home coming party or something. I told him I did not know but would find out and let him know.
