Letter #68 10-26-2015 Torrington Wyoming

Hey Everyone!!

Well this week was planned to be a great week. My companion has a cyst on his tailbone and it is infected. The Doctors got the infection out at the hospital but he will be having surgery in about 2 weeks.  The surgery will put him out of service for about two week  so I did the math and the time I will spend studying during the 2 weeks, cause we will be doing splits every night, and one will just stay with him while I go out with members, but I will spend about 136 hours studying. But transfers are tomorrow and me and Elder Pember are staying right here for another 6 weeks so that is fun!

One thing I have not told you about this transfer is ever other Thursday we go do service at the zoo, and that is a lot of fun preparing and feeding all the animals there. What is really cool is how well the animals recognize the zoo keepers and when they come around even when it is not feeding time yet. But the last time we went I got to feed the lions and that was way cool and trust me they get hungry when it is time to eat hahaha!! 2 full grown male lions!!
One thing I just thought of is how the animals there know who the zoo keepers are... Well I feel when the day comes and we meet our Savior and Heavenly Father we will recognize them just as well. But something to think about.. is well we be excited to see them or will we be embarrassed to see them cause of all the things we have messed up on and not ask for forgiveness for and used what Jesus Christ preformed for us when he came here to earth??

Well hope you all have a fun week and are safe!

Much love
Elder Urry

PS Steve did Trisha show you up at surfing? And don't say it was to cold there hahaha. Also what part of California is she from, my comp is from there and was just wondering?

Letter #67 10-19-2015 Torrington, Wyoming

Hey Everyone!!!
Well this week was a tough week literally! Everything we had planned fell through other than our dinners haha! But for me all day Saturday I was wanting to be in Fort Collins because S_ (see picture below), who I was teaching while I was there, got baptized. I was so happy for him but so sad I missed it. He is a fantastic man and such a nice man when we were teaching him. But I did get a photo from the Zone Leaders there that were at the baptism so I will be sending that home today.
Ok well something crazy happen this week! So there is this young couple  M_ and C_ J_, in this ward. One night this week we go over there to pick up some things for my companion and Chase's mom and sister were in town. We were head out the door and she told us to just wait one second. I was like ok, and she wanted to give us money for a night we dont have a dinner appointment or just to have some extra food at the house. So 99% of the time people will give us $20 and that is $10 for each of us and they do it cause they cant have us over in there home to feed us. Well she was talking to us about how her son was taken care of so well on his mission and she wanted to do the same thing. So she gives us each $50 and I was like really!!! You don't need to give us this much we can just split one of them. But she told us no I am giving the missionary's $100 and just count it as a blessing. I said thank you so much cause she would not take it back and just let us split the 50. So that is what happened. Well I will send the photo home too but not much happen this week it was a hard week but we are going to go after it this next week!!

Letter #66 10-12-2015 Torrington, Wyoming

Hey everyone!!
This week has been so crazy with all that is going on here! We are super busy right now cause not only do we have a lot of people to see but we finally got the iPad planner app so everything can be done on the iPad's, so whenever there is free time we are transferring all records and everything in the area book to the iPad.
The area book goes back to 2012 so it is a LOT of info we have to type into our iPads. And one thing I have come to know is I was not put on this earth to use technology haha!! So we will be doing this for the next month or so.
Well this week we set our investigator J_ on date for baptism on November 7 2015. And I don't know if you remember me talking about S_, I was teaching him in Fort Collins but I heard from the zone leaders down there that he is getting baptized this Saturday and I am super excited for him!! I wish I could be there though, but is was fun to hear.
This week we also had interviews with President Brown, and mine was really short like 5 minutes max that is all it took. And just from what he said I think I will be here in Torrington for a while. It won't be 6 weeks and out I think or hope. It’s crazy also to think I only have 3 interviews left and he and I go home :(  Cause interviews are every other transfer and the departing interview on your last transfer too. Well enough about that, time for the really cool experience this week.

So every Friday in our mission each companionship plans and prepares for the next week. We both knew we still had some family's and were trying to decide when we should see them. There is this one less active family, named the W_ that live about 15 minutes away and we have only seen them once. We both felt like we needed to go see them Sunday night. So we put them down for Sunday at 7pm.
Yesterday, it seemed every thing was going longer then planned and we still felt we need to go see this family. So we finally left for their home about 730 pm. It was not a set appointment so we were never late. We got there and they let us in. And just so you know living there is the grandma and grandpa there son and then his son. When we got there the grandson and his dad were gone so we talked with grandma and grandpa and everything seemed like it was going great until they got a phone call. S_ their grandson who is about 13 years old was the one who called, he said one of his friends was over and they were riding their horses, she got kicked full on right in the chest about 530 pm that afternoon and was taken to the Emergency room.
That phone call was to let the grandparents know what was going on.  The Doctors found out she had a bruised liver and was bleeding internally.  After that call the grandparents told us everything that had happen that day. Then they ask if they could hear a message and asked Elder Pember to say the opening prayer. During that I had this feeling to share this Mormon message called “bearing our burdens with hope”, but I had no idea what I would relate this to or how to talk about it until the last part of the video and that is when S_ and his dad got back.  It was then I knew why everything was running late cause if we had come at 7 we would not of seen them. I related this video and how in the end it was talking about the Atonement and how it can help with what was going in their lives right then.
I wish I could repeat what was said in that room but all I remember is how strong the spirit was there at that time. And after the lesson I felt like I should  ask S_ if he would like a blessing and he did so we placed our hands on his head and in the name of the Lord, gave him a blessing of comfort. After that his grandpa looked at both of us and said "I don't know what made you guys think of coming over here tonight but you picked the perfect time to do so, we needed this and we needed the spirit you have brought into our home tonight."
I know the spirit leads us to where the Lord wants us be He knew on Friday, when we were planning our week to have us see the W_ for that reason. And I know this is no coincidence, cause I have seen this many times over on my mission.
We will not see people unless the Lord wants us to.  Things we plan may fall through but in the end we will see who the Lord needs us to see. I know this is true, like I said I have seen it over and over. And I bare my testimony of this and leave it with you in the name of Jesus Christ amen.

Well everyone hope you have a great week!!

Letter #65 10-5-2015 Torrington, Wyoming

Hey everyone!
So mom is going to check the inside of the walls because the wood might be going bad and getting wet? What is going on at home? But I do guess that depends how much water got through to the wood.... Looks like it's been a crazy week at home. But something should be coming in the mail for Paul I sent it about a week ago it was a postcard from Fort Collins of the place where we went hiking.
Well you told me Eric had his first full game how do you do Eric?
Also Kyson good job you paid more attention than me to conference when I was your age and watching at home.  ha ha!
Conference was really good this week lots of good talks.  I feel like my take was a lot on how to become a better person while living on this earth but not being of the world and staying on this path,  so we can return and live with our Heavenly Father again someday. One of the talks I really liked was by Elder D. Todd Christofferson. The things I really got out of that was pretty interesting just how he was talking about the reason we go to church and have church every Sunday instead of just having faith and living by that. We go to church, one, for the sacrament and, two, to learn from others but we also go to have others help us become stronger in the gospel because one person by themselves is not as strong as a bunch of people together.
Well it was pretty cool to see three new apostles called.  I was so impressed with Elder Gary E Stevenson talk he gave back in April 2014 conference entitled Our Four Minutes, I am really excited to hear more from him in the coming years.
That talk has just stuck out to me ever since and is one of the best talks to use to relate to the plan of salvation and the three questions people have a lot, first,
Where did we come from?
We can use this talk to relate the pre-earth life in how Olympic athletes take so much time before the Olympics to train and become the best they can be in their event.
Why are we here?
Here on earth is our time to perform in the “Olympics” of life and to try to achieve that gold medal. Which is to live with our Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ again.
Where are we going?
And here we have achieved what we learned in the “Spiritual Olympics” and we will have to live with that forever.

That is just kind of a summary of what we would talk about with people we are teaching and it usually helps makes things pretty clear with the plan of salvation.  Well hope you all have a good week can't wait to hear from you next week.

Much love
Elder Urry

Ps I invite you all to do the “ponderizing” thing starting today doing 1 scripture a week putting it where you can read it a lot that day and then in 3 months or so when I call on Christmas we can talk about what has come from that!
So will you do that?

My 1st one is 1 Nephi 3:7

“And it came to pass that I, Nephi, said unto my father: I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them.”
