Letter #29 1-26-2015 Sterling CO

Hey Everyone!!
Well we had stake conference as well and it was a reminder to me the reasons I came out here! Because G.R.__ (the man i had a chance to teach and see get baptized several months ago) spoke and President Wilson who also was at the lessons for G__, spoke. And seeing G__ speak for me was more special than most cause I was there at the 1st lesson and I have seen him grow since then. And when you are a missionary or at least for me sometimes I don't realize how much people actually look up and respect what you are doing out here. And I saw this in both G__ and President Wilson's talks. Also just seeing someone's life change for the better and watch them become happier is the best thing in the world!!!
Also there is something I want to talk about it was when President Wilson was talking about trusting the missionary's. He said that what he has learned at this time is you can always trust the missionaries if they are in tune with the Spirit of the Lord. Because in his words "sometimes you might be a little scared to trust them but I have learned you can trust them because one of the missionary's teaching G__ at the time was 2 months out and very green behind the ear's." (aka me) haha!
But this is a true statement for anyone if we are being lead by the spirit and we follow those prompting's we cant go wrong. But there is opposition in all thing's and that is what make's that choice so hard to make sometimes! So we need to fortify our spirit like Moroni in Alma 50 does.  He fortifies his city before going to war. If we are prepared we will put up a better fight, and win with the Lord on our side. It is when we are weak and down that we fail and when the advisory comes full steam, he will take advantage of us in those weak times. But when times are hard and you feel weak, but don’t give up this is right when the Lord is about to help you do something great in His sight that we may not see at the time.
Well this week was a great week and I am doing great, I thank you for all you prayers they do help!! And all of you are in my prayers along with the people of the Sterling area. I love you all and wish you the best for this week!!!

Love

Letter #28 1-19-2015 Sterling CO

Hey Everyone!!!
Congrats Eric that is great news man!!!!! (Eric got engaged over the weekend to Rachel Stoker!!!!! they will be married in Arizona sometime in June.)
Well this week the fun was on Tuesday when we went and helped a sister in the ward move out of her house cause she was leaving for Utah and she just went through a divorce. But the moving was not the hard part at all it was the fact that we got the U-haul and 4 other trucks stuck in the snow and spent 3 hours just to get everything where they needed it to be to start moving. But the funny part is all of the 4 vehicles.  I told them “they were going to get stuck if they go that way...” but no!.... people don't listen to the Elder from Arizona  cause he does not know anything about snow and cars. So I just laughed at each person that said “I will be fine just watch”, and that is what I did was just watched every time they backed up and then slammed on the gas and got stuck in the snow. But it was a lot of fun to go do that and just help them out.
Well tonight we are going with A_ to teach his sister cause she said she wants to hear the lessons from the missionaries. So with this happening I hope that it will get A_ back up and wanting to come to church. But this has been a busy week for me. We have gone all over the place this week and done a lot of work here time is flying!! Well love you all! Hope you have a great week!

(Jeff created the following message and sent to us later in the day on January 19th, 2015.)

Becoming a Better Teacher/Missionary
Revelation 3:19-20 Open up to the Spirit
We need to teach and correct people through love and not through any other way. And the best way to correct is by inviting them to change and then leading the way by example.
We need to listen for the Savior to knock at the door and let Him in. He is our best help and comforter and He just brings happiness to people. But we have to OPEN THE DOOR!

Doctrine and Covenants 14:5-8  Blessings of Obedience
If we will humble ourself and go to the Lord life will be much easier!
Seek for the good things in life that the Lord has to offer us and ask for strength to withstand temptation.
Endure through the hard times cause when you can push through and overcome a trial that is when you become stronger than before.
Faith is key to all the doors we have to go through cause if we have faith things will work out in the end for us.

Doctrine and Covenants 50:22 Teaching with Success
When teaching we need to have a love for the people and use the spirit to help us because if we do that we will both get something out of the lesson.
And when we teach and do not feel right or good about it, it is not what the Lord wanted us to say, we are just His tools when teaching He is the true teacher. We are the nail and He is the hammer we can’t work by ourselves we need the Lord to pick us up and guide us in the way we need to go. Just like a construction worker will lead the nail and hammer so it goes in the right place.

Matthew 16: 13-16 Help them gain strength in Faith
We need to help people understand and have a better testimony because it does not matter about what other people say. If you use their words you are not converted yourself. And that is the most important person to help. Before we try to help others we need to know for ourselves about what we teach.

Mom, PS: The letter was short cause the computers were not working this morning so I could not write much. I am doing better at the journal thing but I can still get better. I am doing it like every other day right now so that is better but not best. So I am working on that! Talk to you next week.

Letter #27 1-12-2015 Sterling CO

Hey Everyone!!!
Well my comp is Elder Childress he has been out 3 months and just got finished being trained. He is from Oklahoma. Also he is big into wrestling and is a 5 time national champ.  He also won an international championship in Russia and China so he is really good!!!! He also is a hard worker so that is great! But he has come from a very different background. He was in the adoption agency for the 1st 15 years of his life. And then one day he got some mail from someone, who, to this day he has not met. And it was a Book of Mormon. He decided to read it and after that he found his dad’s uncle in Utah and they adopted him and so after that he was baptized.
Well this week was very cool!! Not many people that serve a mission can say in their first six months they have met 2 apostles. And the 2 I have met is Elder Cook and Elder Bednar. Well Elder Bednar came Friday. And when he go up he said I am not here to give a talk, I want to have a discussion with you Elders and Sisters. And I am not here to teach you we are here to be taught be the spirit. We all said things and he would let us bring up the topics and talk about them. And for most of the time we talked about discerning the spirit and what we need to do and how we need to act on promptings.  He also talked about when we go to Heavenly Father in prayer we need to give Him a plan and be ready to act on what ever He gives us. So pretty much every missionary that raised his hand to speak got to have a conversation with Elder Bednar. And let me tell you having a conversation with Elder Bednar was really cool.
The thing that stands out to me was he was talking about at church, sometimes, when we give a closing prayer, we might say "Dear Heavenly Father bless those who are not here today to come next week"... then he said DON'T DO THAT! What you should be praying for is that everyone in the congregation, before they go home for the day, stop and think of someone who was not at church, and then go visit them. (Then they also need to pray that everyone doesn’t go to the same house! haha!)  So it’s up to us to put forth effort and listen to the promptings to go visit someone who wasn’t at church.
Think of it this way, say you want to get stronger and get in shape and you go to the Lord and tell Him this, He wants you to do your part and then He will bless you. But if you say this and then just go sit on the coach and watch TV all day and eat bad food and all, then you wonder way He has not answered your prayers!  It’s because we NEED to DO OUR PART. We are here to be tested in this life and to become like our Father in Heaven. He well help but He still wants us to learn. He loves us but He can not do everything for us we need to, in the words of one of my favorite Zone Leaders, “buck up and push through” and become stronger in what we are learning cause doing it ourselves is the best way to learn even when it can be hard.
I know this is true and with the last transfer going through such a hard time it makes me want to become better.
And like Elder Holland talked about one time, sometimes we need to turn left and hit a dead end and know we went the wrong way in order for us to be confident in the path we are going when we turn around and fix our path.
This is one of the hardest thing I have learned on my mission and I have gone to our Savior a lot for help but what I also have learned is we need to go to Him with a plan in mind like the Brother of Jared  (Ether Chapter 3).
Well love you all and hope you have a wonderful week!!!

Letter #26 1-5-2015 Sterling CO

Hey Everyone!!
Well transfers are tomorrow and I am staying in Sterling and Elder Stone will be heading to Fort Collins.
Well this week was good so let me tell you about what happened. Well yesterday G_ ask us to come over and visit with him, well we showed up a little early and his friend was over so I started talking to him and his name was R_ and well that conversation lead into a lesson and now we will be seeing him every week on Sunday at 2:30pm. Well yesterday was a great lesson and G_ may only have been in the church for a short time but his testimony is so strong and powerful.
Well we also got three referrals to go see some people who want to hear about the church and the cool thing here is most people that we have success with are people just out of Jail or Prison. And so this week we got one referral to the Akron Jail about 30 minutes from us. And we are going to ask President Brown and the Jail if we could see him during his visiting time cause that is what he did when he was in jail before. But some of the people that may look the most scary and far from coming to any church are the ones that are the strongest here! So never think someone wont accept listening cause they just might!
Well this week has been good and i look forward to seeing my new comp tomorrow. Well this transfer will go to February 17th and I am scared for the day I have to leave Sterling cause the town is so nice and so many great people! I will be here for 7 1/2 months at least now so that is so cool and the ward thought I was leaving for sure but they are glade I am not!
Well love you and hope you have a fun week!
